New Year's Eve 2010 Attire

I'm often at a loss for what to wear on New Year's Eve. (As evidenced last year... I needed your help choosing my outfit!)

So I was excited to see some stylish New Year's Eve attire ideas on one of my favorite style blogs, FabSugar. The looks range from 70s glam and Brazilian bombshell to Mad Men chic and classic glam. I identified with Jennifer Connelly's updated, feminine tuxedo style.

Love Maegan Inspired Shoes

Gals, you must read Love Maegan. She's a fabulous, stylish, glamorous blogger from LA with a great mixed modern and vintage sensibility. Thanks to a tip from Mb, Love Maegan has been a

daily read for the past two-ish years.

Anyway, Maegan has most excellent taste in shoes. Not only are her shoe picks mega-stylish, I can tell she picks durable shoes to fill her closet. Did I mention I would love to raid that closet?

Being the thrifty gal I am, I occasionally crawl the offerings of eBay for the shoe brands I see on Maegan's blog. Some of her faves are:

• Guess
• L.A.M.B.

I know a nice shoe can be a good investment — but as almost a rule — I will spend about $50 max on a pair of shoes.

A few weeks ago, I scored the jackpot!

White T-shirt Onesie

We've seen so many great DIYs on the blogosphere. Two of my favorite DIYers (especially of the clothing variety) are Love Maegan and One Dress a Day.

I haven't drank much of the DIY koolaid yet. But I want to!!!

Something about my lunchtime trip to Goodwill today got me feeling brave. I spotted this white cotton shorts onesie ($5.89, placed with the dresses for some reason) and thought, "huh, maybe I could work with that..."

(The label says something about athletic wear... what the eff sport would someone wear this thing for? To me it looks like a mental hospital PE uniform.)

Why am I telling you this? Because if I tell you know, you guys have to hold me accountable for showing the results, no matter how great or heinous they are...

Summer Safari

Yesterday I mentioned that I picked up a sweet (and brand spankin' new!) men's GAP button-up in olive green.

I didn't put together the outfit in time for What I Wore's reader challenge post — but here's my attempt at a Safari-Chic:

• Cream-colored cotton tank (Old Navy - $6)
• Off-white linen pants (Banana Republic via eBay - new - $12)
• Twigs necklace (gift from my girl Megan)

I thought this necklace would be perfect for this outfit. It feels very African-inspired. While I call it a twig or pretzel stick necklace, it's actually some kind of very tough fiberglass-like material. 

Speaking of What I Wore's Safari challenge, I am so excited to be introduced to Seven Dollar Pants, a blog led by a dynamic Toronto duo. Christine (below) was the fave outfit of the What I Wore challenge. She called this outfit her "Zookeeper" look. I can tell these gals are going to be very inspiring! They're thrifty, creative and stylish: three of my favorite things.

Marisa from "New Dress A Day" started with this blah tuxedo blouse...

And turned blah to fab with a little blue and black Rit dye. (see the post here)

About a month ago, I posted about the awesomeness that is New Dress A Day.

Have you been following Marisa and her transformationalist blog? She's committed to only spending $365 this year on clothing. On top of being amazingly economical, she's showing the world how one can take a $1 too-big or lackluster thrift store find and turn it into something "wow"-worthy. Her tricks include dying, taking in, embellishing with lace (or sequins!) and hemming. And did I mention that she includes hilarious commentary in every post?

See above for a few recent transformations. I think I have a girl crush!

I, for one, can't wait to pick my sewing machine up from the repair shop so I can try my hand at a New Dress A Day-style makeover on a Goodwill treasure!
